1970s: Seventies SLimdown
The '70s were a time for disco, bellbottoms, jumpsuits, and...anorexia? Slim hips and flat stomachs were envied by women everywhere in order to fit into these slim styles with newer, clingier fabrics. A lean overall look with "natural" makeup and long hair, a la Farrah Fawcett, was the ideal for women. At this time, Anorexia nervosa was introduced to the mainstream after the long-time suffering of musician Karen Carpenter from the disease.
