1950s: THe Hourglass Housewife
Clothing at this time consisted of mainly dresses, with tight bodices to reflect an ever-shrinking waistline and flowing skirts to further accentuate the coveted hourglass figure. Hip and derrière padding was sold for the less curvy women so that they could "fill out" their dresses. In addition, skinny shaming was a large part of advertising; the invention of mass market breast creams and weight gain supplements began to dominate the female market.
